Fitness classes at The Retreat are provided by carefully selected local instructors, and are available to book on a first-come first served basis.

They are free to Signet Spa members, and may be available to hotel guests for a small fee, subject to availability.

"With a personal interest and background in endurance sport, in particular long distance running and road cycling, I am passionate about all things fitness related. I discovered Pilates seeking help for posture related problems, was quickly convinced of this self empowering approach to movement and thus found my calling. After extensive theoretical and practical training I qualified as a full Body Control (TM) Pilates mat work instructor in 2005 and have since been teaching classes and private sessions in and around Newbury. Over the last 15 years I have also worked alongside physiotherapists which has given me a lot of experience in teaching clients with specific conditions ranging from hip replacements, sciatica, spinal fusions to non-specific lower back pain etc. This motivated me to become a Back4Good Practitioner and undertake additional training exclusively related to exercise referral and low back pain attaining the level 4 fitness instructor qualification.


I have also gained qualifications in all the Pilates Studio equipment and teach private sessions on the Reformer, Cadillac, Pilates Chair, Ladder Barrel and Arc. My detailed knowledge and understanding of how the body moves, my focus on postural corrective exercise and my enthusiasm will motivate you to working harder than you thought you could and make you move and feel muscles you never knew you had. I will help you increase your body awareness, taking your attention into the body, to experience what core stability actually feels like and then learn how to stabilise whilst executing bigger movements around that stability. This approach will create a balance between flexibility and strength thus realigning your entire body back to good posture."

Zoe Warren

Zoe's yoga classes are set to beautiful playlists and will challenge, lengthen, strengthen and release the physical body whilst weaving in breath work and mindfulness. You will leave feeling more connected, balanced and energised.

"I trained in Power Yoga over 12 years ago. My style of teaching has evolved to be a mix of yoga, somatic movement and dance."

Caroline's Circuits

Lower Body Fitness

"Having qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2001, I have spent over 20 years working directly with clients one on one or with group exercise classes and in 2020 I launched Caroline's Circuits, an online membership fitness platform offering live 30 minute workouts focussed on strength training. 

I am passionate about exercise in midlife and the benefits that resistance training brings both physically and mentally.  I also have an IG account @carolinescircuits where I provide workouts and fitness inspo/motivation. 

My first class at the Retreat will be a 30 minute lower body class focusing on strengthening the glutes (the powerhouse of the body!) and the leg muscles as well as the core. It can be done with just body-weight or using a resistance band and I promise a 45 minute full sculpting blast! I would love you to join me!"

Lorna Cowan

Cardio Tennis

Cardio Tennis is a fun, sociable, group fitness class. It is a workout on the court, players get to hit lots of tennis balls and everyone can join in, whether you are a beginner or a pro! You’ll get to enjoy a full body work out to music and enjoy a high energy, motivational session.

Lorna has worked in tennis her whole career, initially at the International Tennis Federation working in their commercial team and now helping to run the UK tennis charity, Give It Your Max. 

She has been coaching on and off for the last 10 years and has a real passion for getting as many children involved in the sport as possible. Lorna also loves delivering cardio tennis sessions enabling everyone of all standards to get on court and have some fun.

Amber Macintosh

"Combining the tradition of Kundalini with the modern Awakening Vinyasa approach I will guide you through a truly immersive yoga practice."

Amber is a 500 hour trained yoga teacher and qualified nutrition coach who loves working with all abilities on the yoga mat. She will guide you through physical postures with breathing techniques and meditation to energise the mind, body and spirit.

Incorporating variations in every pose Amber holds space for you to have your best experience of yoga and ensure correct alignment.

Alessandra Wilcox

I became a Body Control Pilates instructor in 2003 after experiencing the transformational benefits of Pilates following the birth of my oldest daughter.

My passions include supporting individuals overcoming musculoskeletal challenges and issues resulting from trauma, sporting injury and surgery often working holistically with physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, and medical professionals.

I am a Back4Good Practitioner and have trained in Pilates for Scoliosis, the Older Person and people affected by Osteoporosis. I’m also a qualified EMMETT Technique Practitioner.

Clients tell me how much they appreciate the meticulous attention to detail planning every mat class delivering variety and challenge for everyone. I also teach using Pilates Studio Equipment including Reformer and Cadillac.

Natt's natural gift of coaching and ease of working with people on a personal level has led to several successes in the fitness industry. Successes include conceiving, designing and launching an innovative group exercise fitness brand in partnership with Bear Grylls through to co-authored the best-selling fitness book Your Life – Train for It with Bear and also founding Accomplish Fitness - a boutique fitness studio with a singular focus to help clients achieve their fitness and wellbeing goals through innovative and progressive fitness.

Natt uses mindset to underpin of her learning and teaching in both her working life and her home life.

Natt's fitness ethos is based on the proven and recognised principals of enhanced interval training. Interval training, specifically high intensity interval training (HIIT), offers maximum benefits in a shorter period of time to help you get the results you want without needing to spend hours in the gym.

Natt's workouts typically involve the use of alternating periods of short intense anaerobic exercise with less-intense recovery periods. The use of short, intense workouts have been proven to provide improved athletic capacity and condition, improved glucose metabolism, improved fat burning and an overall reduction in cardio vascular related diseases.
